How to Improve Your SEO Efforts

Optimizing your website will give your business improved visibility. Although the process may seem complicated, these simple tips can help get you started in your SEO efforts.

The structure of your website should be clean. Decrease the amount of code you use and eliminate unnecessary code. Write your code using HTML so that your website will be search engine friendly. Have a thorough sitemap on each page to help get your website indexed more quickly. A complicated internal structure or a confusing sitemap can make it difficult for spiders to index your site.

Have a domain name that includes your major keyword and is relevant to your website. Avoid using dynamic URLs. The major search engines may not be able to fully index websites with variables in the URL. If you have a dynamic URL, use URL Rewrite to make it appear static.

Although black hat SEO techniques may lead to getting your website indexed faster, you may end up being penalized by the search engines. Some of the most popular black hat tactics include keyword stuffing, link farming and hidden text. Many black hat SEO tricks end up making a website that is attractive to search engine spiders but extremely difficult for users to navigate. Your keywords and links should always be relevant to the content on your website.

Do not overuse your keywords. Whether the keywords appear in the content of your webpage, the description of your website or image tags, they should always make sense to users. Although a list of keywords may improve your ranking, if it does not make sense to users, the increased visibility will be useless.

Some site wide links have a nofollow tag attached to them, which means the search engines may not give your website credit for the link. Avoid providing site wide links because the search engines may suspect that you are selling your link. Stay away from any links that are not relevant to your website. External links to reputable websites that are relevant to the content of your website are best. Also request that these websites link back to your site for easier indexing by web crawlers. Use internal links to help spiders index each page of your website.

You can improve the ranking of your website on all the major search engines by implementing these basic tools. Simple tools for improved indexing and higher visibility will result in greater success for your website.
